Tom Baker

June 8, 1932 — August 3, 2019

Thomas Lee Baker, Sr 87, of Baltimore, MD, passed away suddenly at his home, with his loving wife by his side on August 3, 2019. A Memorial service will be held August 7, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Ambrose Funeral Home in Lansdowne, Maryland with his son Rev. Thomas Lee Baker, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.  The family has requested that memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Mission Offering

Born and raised in Middlesboro, KY,  he was the son of Levi Baker and Nannie Kinzer of Hazard County, Kentucky. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Cryptographer and later married the bride of his dreams from the other side of the Cumberland Gap. He then re-located his family to Crownsville, MD where he completed his RN degree from Anne Arundel Community College while working at the Maryland State Mental Hospital. He retired after 30 years as a nurse manager from the R Adams Cowley  Shock Trauma Center/University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore with his expertise in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine. Mr. Baker served as a deacon and usher in his church and volunteered in several capacities in his church and community. He and his wife were known as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at the Baltimore Highlands Elementary School for several years. He loved his Lord, his wife, his family, his friends, and his church. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and entertaining others in their home. He served others with a deep passion and truly modeled servant leadership as he met the needs of others before his own.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Pauline Hounshell Baker, children, Rev. Thomas Baker, Jr. (Crystal) of Elko, SC, daughter, Paula Lewis (Greg) of Cape Coral, FL; grandsons, Rev. Nathan Baker (Tessa) of Toliara, Madagascar,  Rev. Andrew Baker (Samantha) of Wake Forest, NC, Daniel Baker (Olivia) of Taylors, SC, Adam Baker of Williston, SC and Benjamin Baker of Elko, SC; granddaughters, Brooke Cook (Bryan) of Salisbury, MD and Morgan Batz of Cape Coral FL.  Surviving great-grandchildren are Chyella Baker and a great-grandson due in December, Corah and Benaiah Baker, Ruth Baker, Brandi and Brantley Cook;  Sister, Betty Rowlett of Michigan.

He was predeceased by his sisters Kathryn Redmond, Marie Baker, and Ginger Osborne.
