John Sipes

May 5, 1957 — January 1, 2021

John E. Sipes, age 63, passed away on January 1, 2021. John is the beloved husband of 42 years to Frances Sipes; devoted father of Patricia Sipes and Jason Sipes and his wife Sabrina; cherished grandfather of Jason Sipes, Jr. and Jaxon Sipes. John is also survived by siblings, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

John became a member of Lansdowne "Fort Lavern" Volunteer Fire Department on May 26, 1973 and immediately became a huge asset. Prior to joining the department, John served in the United States Air Force.

During his tenure, not only did John help serve operations (Sgt., Lt., Capt.), but he also helped with administration (Vice President, Chairman of the Board).

John also helped out big time with fundraising. He helped with Pit Beef Sales, Stag Roasts, etc. but was definitely well known as Santa Sipes. He used to love going to schools to see the children & riding on top of the fire engine. Wherever he may be needed he went.

John will be sorely missed. The Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department expresses their gratefulness for his dedication and service.

A viewing will be held at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Road, Halethorpe, MD 21227 on Wednesday from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in John’s memory to the Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department, 140 Lavern Ave, Baltimore, MD 21227.
