James Zitzer, Jr.

March 10, 1962 — July 3, 2021

James A. Zitzer, Jr., 59, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away at home with beloved husband Warren Benner by his side. James, son of the late Carol “Sue” Zitzer, and of James A. Zitzer, Sr. and his wife Sharon (nee Smoot); dear brother of Jeannie Bullen and her husband Chip, brother-in-law of Kenny Benner and his wife Kerry, Doug Benner, Sr. and Wanda Sparks; dear uncle of Hale and his wife Amber, Tucker, Sam, Nick, Kelsie, Amber, & Doug Jr.; also survived by many other relatives, friends & co-workers.

After earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola University of Md. and a Master of Science at Johns Hopkins University, with concentrations in Information Technology, James spent 13 years at First National Bank, first in the IT Management Training program, then advancing to Assistant Vice President. After several years as an independent consultant in communications infrastructure and change management, James spent over 18 years at Care First, most recently as a Programmer/Analyst in Infrastructure, Operations & Security (IO&S) on the Configuration Services team. James spent many years living his best life. He loved travelling, concerts and festivals, fine art, gourmet food, wine, cycling, dancing, and his two dogs Zach and Zeke. A conversationalist at heart with a robust intellect, he stayed current on everyone's lives, always remembered birthdays and names, and welcomed spirited debate on any topic. Loved and respected by many, James will be missed and always remembered.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Rolling Road Golf Club, 814 Hilltop Road, Catonsville, MD 21228 from 1 PM to 4 PM. Contributions may be made to the Baltimore Animal and Rescue Care Shelter (BARCS), 2490 Giles Road, Balto, MD 21225/www.barcs.org.
