Dorothy C. Mitchell, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2021. She is the beloved wife of the late William Mitchell; devoted mother of Bruce Mitchell and his wife Cara, Jim Mitchell and his wife Kimberly, and the late Greg Mitchell; cherished grandmother of Adam Mitchell and Alison Mitchell; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Dottie (“Dodo”) leaves behind a legacy of love. Her devotion to the well-being and happiness of anyone she came into contact with was nothing short of Christ like. While her children, grandchildren, and her beloved extended family were especially impacted, it was her ability to spread her joy to everyone that set her apart!
She loved children so much she seemed to have taken on an almost celebrity grandmother status for all the kids in the Kensington neighborhood – her home for over 50 years. She also helped establish and subsequently taught at her church’s day care center, Mother’s Day Out. To this day, a lot of the kids she taught still keep in contact.
Dottie also loved music. She believed it was a gift that could turn lives around. She served as children’s choir director at both her churches and was a long-time choir member. She taught herself to play several instruments, and became the Mother’s Day Out resident music teacher. Some of the children she taught were so influenced they went on to become musicians.
Her impact wasn’t just on kids. She was in her element when she was serving others. She was a long-term member and served as the president of the Rolling Hills Women’s Club. She was a regular contributor to their yearly Ladies of the Club Cook cookbook, and very often won acclaim for her amazing recipes. But that wasn’t the only draw for the club. She simply loved to be on the social scene! She also served as president and board member of the Kensington Improvement Association and was in a bowling league called the Noisemakers for over 40 years!! Not only did she love to serve others, they loved her. The room was just alive when Dottie was in it. Her joy spread like no other.
Her family and friends will miss her, but her legacy of love lives on!!
