Christopher Alascio

July 23, 1951 — November 13, 2021

Grantsville

It is with a heavy and broken heart that today, November 13, 2021, Christopher Alascio passed away in his home in Grantsville, Maryland with his beloved wife, Arlene, by his side. Chris enjoyed a lot of different things like going fishing, gaming, and animals; however, only the few, truly special things openly deserved his love.

In 1968, Chris enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry man which immediately sent him to Vietnam where he completed 2 tours in country. He returned home to the United States in 1970 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1972. Chris was the living embodiment of the Marine Corps values and held those values, honor courage and commitment, close to his hearth the rest of his life.

The Marine Corp was Chris’s ultimate source of pride and accomplishment; that is until he finally met the real love of his life. Most of you would probably assume it was penguin related, but no (well it did come from a colder climate), it was even more than a penguin (I know right?!). It was the last piece Chris needed to make himself whole; it was his “Pookie”

Chris and Arlene met online in 1998 and quickly fell in love. At this time, Chris lived Cumberland, Maryland while Arlene lived in Canada; most people who found themselves in this type of long distance relationship might have just let it go but not Chris. After briefly trying to live his life in Washington without Arlene, in typical Chris fashion, he loaded up his Buick Pontiac Grand Am with everything he owned and left the country he loved and defended to join his “Pookie” in Canada.

In 2000, Chris made a new type of commitment; promising to commit the rest of his life to loving and protecting Arlene in marriage. From the day he left the United States until his last days, Chris and Arlene had been inseparable; never apart from one another for more than few hours.

Chris would not have wanted to go any other way than being home with two of the most important people in his life and just after the Marine Corps birthday (November 10) and Veteran’s day (November 11). For those of us who really knew Chris, if he really wanted something, he had a very special way of making sure it happened.

Christopher Alascio has upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps, exemplifying for younger generations of what it is to be a US Marine, a husband, a brother, and a friend. Chris is to be laid to rest in the Arlington National Cemetery with a future date to be announced at a later date and time. Christopher was survived by his wife of almost 22 years, Arlene Alascio; his sister and two brothers, Kim, Frank and Sam; and all of his nieces and nephews, Judy and Victor Clark; Kim and John Horton; Scott Flores; Reggie Shimer and JC Woodard. You will be greatly missed Chris.
