Tragically on April 21, 2026 Wanda Karyl Hartley (nee Lester) passed away. She was born on May 10, 1957 to the late Thomas, Sr. and Joan Lester; beloved wife of Jonathan "Pepper" Hartley; loving mother of Elizabeth Hartley, Zachary Hartley and his wife Christine, and Leah Melton and her husband CJ; generous and devoted Nanny of Lennon, Matilda, Cam, and Quinn; dear sister of Trinita Duncan and her late husband Richard, Patrick Lester and his late wife Laurie, Bonnie Coughlin and her husband Scott, and the late Amy Leaf and the late Thomas Lester, Jr.; also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Wanda had the biggest heart anyone could ever know. She was the light of every room and brought joy wherever she went. As a mother and as “Nanny” to her four grandkids, she was truly unmatched—devoted, nurturing, and endlessly loving. Wanda was the glue that held her family together and was actively involved in many groups and communities, where she formed lasting connections. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She also had a deep passion for caring for the world around her, shown through the many quiet acts of kindness she carried out each day, as well as her commitment to recycling. Not a day will pass without her absence being deeply felt.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on May 11th at 11am at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Community 1601 W. Mount Harmony Road Owings, MD 20736.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed in Wanda's name to HOPE for All, a Christian Ministry striving to offer stability to the daily lives of those in the community and give them hope for their future. Wanda was dedicated for years to volunteering for HOPE, a charity near and dear to her heart. Click here to donate
