Theodore Mayer (Ted), 90, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away on June 8, 2024, from natural causes.
He was born on August 14, 1933, in Munich, Germany to the late Robert Henrich Mayer and Amalie Mayer (nee Brunner). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Bernard Charles Mayer.
He is survived by his wife Ellen (nee Coffee) and children, John Mayer of Lincoln Park, NJ and Jen Mayer of Arnold, MD, sisters-in-law Joyce Harris Mayer and Debbie Coffee, and nephew Robert Mayer (Nora).
He and his family moved to Brooklyn in 1946, where he later graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and City College of New York. After graduation, he served in the Army at various bases in the States and then in Korea. After his father's death in 1960 he moved with his mother and brother from St. Albans NY to Patchogue, NY and began working for the Social Security Administration where he met his future bride Ellen. After marrying they moved to Flushing, NY and then later to Peekskill, NY where they raised their children and Ted rose to become manager of the Peekskill Social Security office. Ted was an avid sailor and yachtsman owning several sailboats and powerboats in his lifetime. He was an active member of the Viking Sailing Association in Verplank, NY while living in Peekskill. After retiring, he and Ellen moved to East Haven, CT in 1989, and enjoyed a life of traveling, including regular road trips to Canada, New England, and the Florida Keys.
In 2019 Ted and Ellen became members of the Charlestown Family to enjoy their twilight years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday June 13, with visitation from 10:30-11 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund at Charlestown or the American Heart Association.
