Robert F. (Butch) Austin, a resident of Arbutus and Lansdowne, Maryland passed away on August 8, 2026.  Mr. Austin was born June 28, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John and Elizabeth Austin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings John W. Austin Jr., William Austin, Laura Goodman and Richard Austin. Butch attended Catonsville High School graduating in 1964. After graduation he was drafted into the US Army where he completed officers candidate school, rising to a 2nd Lieutenant in the 101st Airbourne paratrooper. He was then deployed to Vietnam where he proudly served our country for a combat tour. Butch returned home and married Sally Crawford in 1969 and they welcomed three daughters Pam, Jill and Beth. Later he worked for Raytheon and several government contractors in the computer and data analysis field finally retiring from the State Dept. in 2015. Butch enjoyed hiking, camping, reading, puzzles, and trivia. He was an avid civil war and U.S. History buff and could discuss these topics for hours. 

He is survived by his children Pamela Austin Blades, Jill Bohn Tippett and Mary Elizabeth Harmon; his beloved grandchildren Brittany Bruns, Adam Bohn, Caitlin Harmon, Kevin Blades, Lindsey Neufell, Matt Blades, and Hailey Bohn; and cherished great-grandchildren (3 and one on the way.)

Family members and friends will gather in the Arbutus location on Sulphur Spring Road on Sunday from 1-3 and 5-7PM where a funeral service and military honors will be rendered at 6pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in Butch's name.
