Listen to Obituary

Ray Alan Hall, known to everyone as "Scootie," passed away on September 7, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on March 27, 1940, to Raymond and Hazel Hall.

As a boy, he rode his scooter all around the neighborhood, earning the nickname "Scootie" - a name that stuck with him for the rest of his life.

Scootie excelled at sports and played varsity baseball all four years of high school, where he was noted as a star first baseman. At just 17, he served as a deacon at his church and taught Sunday school. He won numerous awards for his athleticism, good sportsmanship, and excellence in leadership.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he studied Aviation Electronics and graduated 8th in his class. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked at Westinghouse and played semi-pro football for the Arbutus Big Red.

It was at Westinghouse that he met Cheryle, the love of his life. They were married in 1965 and together raised four children: Terri, Jeff, Michelle and Cheri.

After leaving Westinghouse, Scootie worked at Commercial Credit and tended bar part-time to put himself through the University of Maryland, College Park - all while raising a family. Through much determination and hard work, he earned his degree. He continued his career at Commercial Credit, which later became ACI, and remained there until his retirement.

Scootie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dancing at the American Legion, traveling, and spending time in Ocean City. He never missed his children's and grandchildren's events, especially anything sports related. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved his Terps, Ravens, and Orioles. Talking sports was one of his favorite pastimes, and he looked forward to betting on the horse races every Saturday with family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Cheryle, who passed away on July 7, 2014; his parents, Raymond and Hazel Hall (nee Cockerham); and his younger brother, James Wesley Hall. He is survived by his children Terri Holman, Jeffrey Alan Hall (Merry), Yvonne Michelle Clement (Tim), and Cheri Lynn Hall; his grandchildren Kristen Ann Magtanong (Ron), Brittany Irene Sands (Steve), Kelsie Alethia Hoffman (Chris), Shelby Katherine Geringswald (Marcus), Brianna Gibson, Kyle Ray Clement, Ryan James Nance and great grandchildren Charlotte Sue Sands, Matthew Ray Magtanong, and Hazel Gloria Sands; caring brother in law of Mary Hall and Janice Strevig; loving uncle of James Bryan Hall and Chad Wesley Hall, nephew of Senia Hall and Max Hall; also survived by other loving relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Rd, on Monday September 14 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am followed by burial at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
