Patricia Marie VanKirk, 71, a devoted resident of Ferndale, MD for 28 years and formerly of Baltimore, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 13, 2025.
Born August 9, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, Patricia was the beloved daughter of the late Helen and Charles W. Lauf Sr. From a young age, she was drawn to caregiving and pursued nursing certifications during high school. Her passion for helping others led to a 44-year career at Caton Manor, where she worked from 1972 until her retirement in 2016. Over the decades, she held many roles but never wavered in her compassion, dedication, and love for her residents. She was truly one of a kind, if you knew her, you loved her.
Patricia was a faithful member of Violetville United Methodist Church, where she joyfully volunteered for Vacation Bible School and took pride in preparing meals in the church kitchen to ensure every child was fed. After retiring, she became a cherished nanny to her two great-great-nephews, whom she adored.
Though she never had children of her own, Patricia was known to many as “Momma Pat.” She embraced countless loved ones into her heart and home, building family not just through blood, but through love, friendship, and faith. Affectionately known by many names—including “Pat,” “Patty Cakes,” and her favorite, “PVK”, she will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and boundless love.
Patricia found joy in visiting the ocean, traveling, and baking. Her Jewish apple cake was a family favorite and a treasured tradition. Above all else, she valued her family, both biological and chosen.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Gail Lee Sickle, and her brother, Charles W. Lauf Jr.
She is survived by her sister Margaret Higdon and her husband Thomas; sister Terry Grewe; brothers Alvin Lauf and Paul Lauf with his wife Tina; her loving brother-in-law William Sickle Jr.; and many adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Family and friends may gather at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Rd., Lansdowne, MD 21227 for a public visitation on Friday, June 20 from 6:00-9:00pm.
