Mary Lou Mogenhan died peacefully on April 19, 2025 after a long illness.
She is survived by seven siblings: Joseph T., Linda L. Blizzard (Ronald), Ann M, Paul A., Katherine A., Patricia L. Harrison (Jeffrey), Joan F. Mary Lou was predeceased by her father in 2011, her mother in 2009 and her youngest brother, Mark, in 1997. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and worldwide family and friends.
She was born in Laramie, Wyoming in July 1951 to Joseph and Betty Mogenhan. She was in the first class graduating from Baltimore’s Archbishop Keough High School in 1969. She went to Frostburg State University on scholarship graduating in 1973, recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement with a double major in Political Science and History. She was nominated to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities for academic excellence. She served with the Student Government Club at Frostburg.
She worked in the State of Maryland General Assembly as an Intern during the summers. After graduating, she stayed active in Maryland politics serving as a Maryland delegate and working for decades as a local election judge.
Mary Lou worked for decades at the State of Maryland’s Department of Labor Office of Unemployment Insurance as a statistician. In her 30s, she went back to school to earn a degree in tax accounting and started her own company as a successful business tax accountant in Florida and Maryland.
In retirement, she served as a volunteer Assistant Treasurer at the Arbutus Senior Center and continued to prepare tax returns. She was also heavily involved in research of the ancestry of the Mogenhan family tracking family roots to the late1500s well before our ancestors came to America as immigrants in the 1700s. Mary Lou was an avid reader, researcher, mentor and lifelong learner.
She will be remembered as a smart, loving, generous and supportive woman to her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 8 from 1-3pm at Leelynns Restaurant and Lounge, 9495 Old Annapolis Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042.
A private Catholic burial service will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, NY at the family plot.
