Kimberly Joy Layton, 47, of Windsor Mill, entered her eternal home and into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 18, 2026. She was a devoted daughter to Dennis and Linda, loving sister to Kelly, thoughtful friend to many, and doting cat-mom to Shadow.
Born in Philadelphia on November 7, 1978, Kim spent most of her life in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She worked at two different law firms in the Baltimore region over the last 13 years. She was a diligent employee who was always very conscientious in her work.
Kim was known for her generosity, sensitivity, and kindness. She was compassionate and had a heart for others. As a regular attender of Brooklyn Park Community Church, she participated in their monthly homeless outreach ministry. Kim welcomed the opportunity to meet and encourage others with a smile or a hug. Singing praise songs on the church worship team brought her joy.
She enjoyed reading, working on art projects, baking, playing the piano, and traveling. Her favorite family vacations included a cruise to Alaska, travel to California, national parks, Florida, various beach destinations, and her 40th birthday trip to Iceland with her sister.
Kim’s heart for kids was clear to all who knew her. As “auntie” to her best friend's children she shared time with them around the bonfire and the kitchen table playing games, laughing and sharing stories. Her time teaching 3rd grade at Grace Bible Baptist Christian School brought her great satisfaction and fulfillment.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Layton; her sister, Kelly Layton; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, William and Gertrude Layton, her maternal grandparents, John and Lois Lunsford, and her beloved father, Dennis Layton.
The graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 28th at 11 AM at Broadfording Church Cemetery found at 13523 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 11 AM at Arlington Baptist Church - Bisset Memorial Chapel, 3030 N Rolling Rd, Windsor Mill, MD 21244. Visitation following the service. Everyone is invited to stay for a meal and fellowship with the family in the elementary cafeteria.
