On Saturday February 24th, James Calvin Lawrence went to join his beloved wife Marian, where they now sit together at the feet of their Lord and Savior. He left this life the same way he lived: surrounded by those he loved the most. A lifelong resident of Baltimore, Maryland, he was born to Calvin Lawrence and Helen Mack (neé Voegler) on February 11th, 1932. He had just celebrated his 92nd birthday.
He is survived by his two children, Melissa and Jimmy, grandchildren, Kendall and Barrett, sister, Mary Margaret and many nieces and nephews. They remember him lovingly as a man who would give you the shirt off his back.
Known to his multitude of friends and family as “Mack” or “Jim,” all will call him a man devoted to service, donating much of his time to his longtime church, Trinity Assemblies of God, both for Sunday service and contributing to Wednesday night dinners and bible studies. Folks would eagerly await tins of chocolate chip cookies during the holiday season and famous crab cakes every summer. He was a veteran of the Korean war, and employed by Baltimore Gas and Electric for 40 years where he worked as a lineman, installing and repairing power lines, rain, snow or shine.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, March 1st from 4-7pm at Ambrose Funeral Home in Halethorpe, MD. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday, March 2nd at 10am. Donations to Gilchrist Hospice Care are encouraged, and the family thanks them for providing such affectionate care in the twilight hours of his life.
