With full hearts and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of Ida “May” Bennett, who left this world on February 19th at the age of 80.
She was the beloved wife of Grayson Bennett Jr for 61 devoted years — a partnership built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering love. Together they created a family that became her greatest pride and life’s work.
She was a cherished mother to her son, Ronald Bennett Sr (Tracy), and her daughter, Donna Perez (the late Daniel Perez). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Megan Fitzwater (Brandon), Katlin Baker (Craig), Ronald Bennett Jr., Nevaeh Perez, and Daniel Perez.
Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandsons — Abraham, Andrew, John, Thomas, William, and Theodore — each of whom brought light to her later years and stories she loved to tell.
She is survived by her loving brother, George Koenig Jr (Phyllis), and was preceded in death by her brother, John Koenig, whom she adored deeply.
Born to George Koenig Sr and Ida May Koenig (Pearce), she carried forward the strength and warmth of her parents throughout her life.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, she served as a deli manager for over 20 years. She took pride in her work and the relationships she built there, becoming a steady and familiar presence in the community.
She was also deeply passionate about duckpin bowling. She not only bowled in adult leagues — proudly serving as secretary — but also lovingly coached her children through youth leagues, dedicating countless hours to practices, matches, and encouragement. The bowling alley was a place of joy, friendship, and purpose for her.
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: cheering on the Baltimore Orioles, gathering around a card table for a spirited game, trying her luck at the casino, and most of all, cooking meals that brought her family together. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, conversation, and unconditional love.
Above all, she was devoted to her family. Her love was steady, her presence grounding, and her home a place where everyone felt welcome.
Her life was a testament to loyalty, resilience, humor, and heart. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
