Henry Thomas Thacker, Jr. passed away on June 3, 2026. He is the beloved husband of the late Ethel B. (Halbig) Thacker, and devoted father of the late Thomas J. Thacker and Barbara Glanzmann (Ray). Henry is survived by several loving nieces and nephews. He also cherished good friends, neighbors, and caregivers. Henry loved Saint Clement Church in Lansdowne, where over the years he had served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He also assisted with accounting and masonry work where needed.
Henry served in the Air Force as a radio operator, achieving the rank of sergeant. During the Korean Conflict, Henry deployed to Okinawa, Japan where he studied the Catholic faith and received the holy sacraments. He often found that his faith in Jesus was strengthened through the prayers of the rosary. Henry married Ethel on July 1, 1950. Her father John Halbig taught Henry the bricklaying trade. Together they built a house on Hillendale Avenue in Lansdowne where Henry and Ethel raised their two children. They lived there for nearly 70 years.
Henry loved hunting, fishing, and camping - mainly on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He served as an assistant Boy Scoutmaster with local Troop 890, and enjoyed time with his friends at the local Lansdowne Inn, American Legion Hall, and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen "Old Timers" Club. His greatest joy during his sixties and seventies was visiting his kin in Orange, Virginia.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at 10:30am with burial to follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park. Any donations and mass offerings in Henry's honor to his beloved parish are most appreciated:
