Francis A. “Bud” Miller, Sr., of Catonsville, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.  He was 94 years old.

Born in Arbutus in 1929, he was the only son of Henry and Loretta Miller.  His two older sisters, Charlotte Mueller and Claire Weber preceded him in death.  The youngest sister, Anne Ogaitis, lives with her husband John at Charlestown Retirement Community.   He attended Ascension School and graduated in 1948 from Mount Saint Joseph.  Upon graduating from high school, Bud joined the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 where he learned to become an electrician.  This became his profession for the rest of his working life.  He became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union Local 24 in 1953 and received a 70-year membership award in 2023.  He worked for Noone Electric for several years and then for Carling Brewing Co./aka Heilman Brewing Co. until his retirement.

After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Bud met and fell in love with Claire Christian, a local Halethorpe girl.  They were married in 1954 and remained so for over 50 years until her death in 2005.  He stated, “She was a wonderful person and the best thing that ever happened to me.  I couldn’t have asked for or ordered a person to fit into my life any better in every way than she did.”  After outgrowing living in an apartment in Arbutus, they set up house in Catonsville.   Together they produced six children – Carol, Pat, Kathy, Beau, Joe and Marty.  He expressed to his children how very proud he was of each of them.  He enjoyed their wonderful personalities, actions and deeds, thoughtfulness, sense of humor, work and personal ethics, and ability to get along with each other and other people.

Bud was an avid sportsman.  He enjoyed deer hunting, boating, fishing, duck or goose hunting, and attending the Daytona 500 car races.  Upon retirement, he frequently enjoyed a good game of “Tuesday” golfing with his friends. They would make arrangements to play at various golf courses in the Maryland area.  He was also known for playing a good game of shuffleboard and hanging out at the American Legion Post #109.

But most of all, Bud will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a beloved friend.  He was happiest in the company of friends and family but liked his independence too.  He never wanted to be a bother to anyone but was always appreciative of everything his family and friends did to support him throughout his life.

Bud is survived by Carol Mox and her late husband Douglas Mox, Pat Miller, Kathy Nunnally and her husband Randy Nunnally, Francis “Beau” Miller, Jr. and his wife Jessica Miller, Joe Miller, and Marty Miller and his wife Stephanie Miller; dear Pop Pop of Eric Mox, RJ Nunnally, Jimmy Nunnally and his wife Andrea Nunnally, Lydia Miller, Alex Miller, Morgan Andrews, MacKenzie Andrews, and Travis Miller; loving brother of Anne Ogaitis and her husband John Ogaitis and brother in law of Noreen Christian.
