Fortunée (nee Bazzanti) Tunney, 94, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday April 6th 2018. Born in Nice, France in 1924, as the oldest daughter of Rizieri and MarieJeanne (nee Bessone) Bazzanti. Growing up in the south of France, Fortunée was raised in a true cosmopolitan environment, her parents’ market was a place where any patron was accepted.
She arrived in Baltimore in 1946 after WWII to start her family with Bob Halfpenny. A world traveler, Fortunée spoke fluent French, Italian, and English and passed on her love of languages to her children. It’s impossible to know how many lives she touched, but she spread her love of family, food, culture, and art wherever she went.
Her family includes Evelyn White of Portland, Oregon, her children, Daniel Halfpenny of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nadine Thompson, Josette Norton, and Stephanie McKew all of Baltimore, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a well-loved family spread across the country.
The family will receive guests at Ambrose Funeral Home at 1328 Sulphur Spring Rd, Halethorpe, MD 21227 on Monday April 9th from 2-4pm and again from 6 to 8pm. A private internment will take place at Loudon Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either the National Meningitis Association (nmaus.org) or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org)
