Dr. Bruce Mccurdy

August 13, 1952 — April 5, 2021

Dr. Bruce Randolph McCurdy, age 68, passed away peacefully in his home in Selbyville, Delaware on April 5, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Born in Woodlawn, Maryland, he was the son of Maxane Bernard McCurdy, an x-ray technician with the Veterans Administration, and his wife Harriett Mayfield (May) Coster McCurdy, a longtime bookmobile clerk with the Baltimore County Public Library.

He was a 1970 graduate of Woodlawn High School, earned a Bachelors of Science from University of Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1979. He practiced internal medicine in the Catonsville area for over 35 years before retiring and moving first to Ocean City, Maryland and later to Selbyville, Delaware.

In 1982, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Heilman. In 1987, they settled in Ellicott City where they raised their 3 adoring children as part of the Green Spring Court “family”.

While a trained physician, he was an avid lifelong learner with a broad skill set. A musician, pilot, and boater, he also loved electrical work, deck construction, and was fearless in home repair projects. If it could be shown on YouTube or printed in a manual, he would try it at home. He embraced life with traveling, beach adventures, motorcycle rides, time with friends, trivia, local live music, cigars, political debates, fine whiskey, fishing, and cheering on the Orioles and Ravens.

He took enormous pride in his large and loving family. He was happiest when surrounded by a house full of children and grandchildren, often found showing one of them a recent house update or fixing a broken toy. He leaves a legacy of caring and a gift for imparting life knowledge without preaching. He was a very positive person who showed his emotion not only through his kind and sincere words, but through his many selfless deeds, and he was always willing and eager to help anyone in need.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, Bruce is survived by his 3 children, sons Brian David Picker and wife Ginger, Sean Joseph McCurdy and wife Ashley, and daughter Lindsey May Connor and husband Nick; 7 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Mark Disbrow McCurdy and Gary Warren McCurdy. He was preceded in death by his parents and elder brother, Wayne Coster McCurdy.
